Introducing Brailleboard, the all-new 20 cell, 8 dot, mechanical braille display. What sets Brailleboard apart is its simplicity.

We’ve built a braille display with no motors. The display is entirely driven by hand, making for a display that is not only quiet, but also cheaper than every other display in the market.
We harness the motion of the hand with an external cursor, which Smoothly and Imperceptibly combines the act of tactile reading and electromagnetic actuation into one fluid motion.

This is what makes Brailleboard so affordable. And rugged. And portable. And repairable and easy to maintain.

But that’s only the beginning. Brailleboard is more than just a breakthrough in affordability. With Brailleboard we wanted to create redefine the notetaking experience. We wanted to extend the capabilities of braille by bringing functionality that until now has been limited to conventional word processors.

How do we go beyond indicating that a word in braille should be bold, or underlined or italicised. How do we make a tactile underline, a tactile bold or highlighted word? Brailleboard is our answer.

Brailleboard features 10 mechanical keys, five on each side for notetaking. The mechanical keys have a great tactile feel and are widely available and are easy to replace.
Powering our lightweight electromagnetic actuators are 3 AA batteries. The power button also acts as a third action key in certain situations.
Functions similar to the CONTROL key on your computer. The action key is used for various file operations such as bookmarking and searching.
The scroll tab is used for navigating between lines. Long pressing scrolls faster.
The display is driven by hand and is quiet enough to be used in classrooms and workplaces. It has an innovative latching system to ensure the pins remain firmly in place as you read.
Just like a computer cursor, you can move our cursor across the board to the precise location where you want to edit, change or delete text. This same cursor is also used to drive the display by hand.
Think of this key as the shift key, bringing out extra functionality from the keys you already have.
